Sweet Me Sweet Cream Espresso Mocha
Every time I try a new Sweet Me Creamery flavor I'm more impressed. Sweet Cream Espresso Mocha is
Vanilla ice cream kissed with espresso and swirled with caramel and fudgy brownies.
It's a bit funny that this flavor is called Sweet Cream Espresso Mocha, and yet it has a vanilla base. I tend to think of a base as being either a pure sweet cream or flavored. No middle ground. Yet the base of Sweet Cream Espresso Mocha manages to straddle the line between a sweet cream and a vanilla base without creating something that's just a sad, weakly vanilla-flavored base. The base was buttery with a hint of vanilla flavor to warm things up even more. The espresso flavor is part of the base rather than a separate element. It was incredibly dark and rich which served to bring out the sweetness of the base.
The brownies were large and incredibly dense and chewy. Greyston Bakery brownies are the gold standard for ice cream mix-ins. These came very, very close in texture, and pretty close in flavor. I thought they could have had a stronger, more fudgey flavor to stand out better against the base.
This would have been a good, but fairly typical coffee/chocolate flavor without the caramel. I've seen a few posts on Instagram that are, overall, pretty positive about Sweet Me Creamery, but lament the quality or lack of the mix-ins, but I don't think that's really their schtick. I think Sweet Me Creamery really stands out when it comes to their caramel sauces. They do not skimp on the caramel swirls. There are thick ribbons and puddles throughout the entire pint. The caramel itself is quite buttery, but not so dark that it becomes overwhelming.
While I was eating this pint, I kept thinking about what a weird combination vanilla, coffee, brownie, and caramel made, and how amazing it was that it worked out so well. It finally clicked that it's basically a brownie sundae with coffee ice cream and caramel sauce all mashed into a pint!
I'm giving this š¦š¦š¦.5/4 cones. Die-hard coffee loves who like their coffee ice cream as black as their soul might pass on this flavor because of it's description, but I think they should at least give it a try. Think of it as a great flavor featuring coffee, rather than a coffee ice cream.
