Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams St. Louis Scoop Shop

Image
Lizzy got back from Boston on Wednesday, so we obviously planned an ice cream outing for the next day.  We decided on Jeni's.  Lizzy has been to the scoop shop, but I have not.  In fact, I have never had Jeni's ice cream.  The flavors available in stores near me are just not that exciting, so I've never picked up a pint.  Needless to say, I was pretty excited to try this brand for the first time. Lizzy and I both went with their medium size, which allows you to try 3 flavors.  I chose Pistachio and Honey, Wildberry Lavender, Sweet Potato Pecan Praline.  I'll be honest.  I wasn't expecting to love these flavors as much as I did.  I've heard rumblings that Jeni's is good but overrated, but I thoroughly enjoyed the flavors I picked.  Maybe not enough to buy a $10 pint, but the point is moot since we went to the scoop shop! I'll review these in order of least loved to most loved.  First up, Sweet Potato Pecan Praline.  This is...

Sweet Science Sweet Corn Blueberry

Image
I've been seeing the Sweet Corn Blueberry ice cream pop up on Sweet Science's social media over the past few months.  I went to Tim and Tom's Market a few times in hopes that they would have this flavor stocked.  They never had it when I went, so I decided it was high time to head to one of Sweet Science's monthly free tasting events. (MONTHLY! YOU CAN TASTE ICE CREAM FOR FREE ONCE EVERY MONTH!) This particular tasting was held at LynLake Brewery in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis.  Not only can you eat free ice cream, you can drink a beer while you wait to have free ice cream and then another one after you eat free ice cream.  I didn't do this, but I totally will next time I go to a tasting. The tasting was awesome, and I just want to say thanks to Sweet Science for throwing these events and the employees and volunteers who make the event run smoothly. There were 12 flavors to sample, some of them seasonal and some of them of them in the core line. ...

Clementine's Southern Sweet Corn

Image
The fourth Clementine's flavor I tried was Southern Sweet Corn. I know Jeni's has a flavor with corn, which I do hope to try sometime. Ever since I saw the Jeni's flavor I have been interested in trying a corn ice cream. On first thought, corn ice cream kind of sounds ewwwwy. Like who wants vegetables in their ice cream? On second thought, is corn a even vegetable or is it a grain? On third thought, corn bread with honey on it is tasty and so is creamed corn, so, yeah, I think corn could work in a sweet dairy context. When I first opened this pint, I was kind of disappointed. Every other pint of Clementine's I have tried I audibly ooooohed and ahhhhed when I caught my first glimpse. My disappointment in this instance stemmed from the lack of actual corn kernels. I was hoping for corn kernels. Oh well, this is still a pretty color. When I take my first bite, yep, I taste corn. But the flavor is not strong. As you keep eating, the sweet cream flavor almost takes o...
