Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Almond Bar

Image
Yeah, so, okay, sometimes you need an ice cream bar with 'chocolate' in the name twice.  Luckily Haagen-Dazs is there to deliver with their Chocolate Dark Chocolate Almond bars, described as Milk chocolate ice cream swirled with ribbons of fudge, coated in fine dark chocolate and perfectly roasted almonds. Why did I need double-chocolate ice cream bars? Because, for the first time in my life, I was an utterly terrible student. I was taking a class to fulfill a requirement, and I JUST DID NOT CARE about the subject material. About half-way through the semester I stopped paying attention in class and only turned in about half the homework.  Additionally, I totally half-assed the final project. I did okay on the midterm and the final, but was still really worried about my grade. I was wallowing in self-pity about this completely self-imposed problem and decided I needed super-duper chocolate ice cream treats. SELF-PITY! The Chocolate Dark Chocolate Almond bars were incr...

Coconut Bliss Coconut Almond in Chocolate Bars

Image
So you may remember that a looong time ago I received two coupons for free Coconut Bliss products. I used one of them to buy a pint of the cappuccino ice cream and used the other to buy these bars. They've been sitting in my freezer quite along time, but I'm slowly and surely making my way through my ice cream stock and got to these guys this past week. I definitely don't eat as many ice cream bars and other treats as I should, but I feel like summer is the perfect time for the. So I was excited to try this vegan version of a classic summer treat. Now I just need to go play in a sprinkler and I'll be set. The description of these bars is Creamy coconut with an almond crunch, dipped in organic fair trade chocolate . Man, this is what coconut milk ice cream was made for. This is basically like an almond joy in vegan ice cream form. The chocolate was amazing, it was dark, but still smooth. However, it could have been a little thicker. There was a touch of vanil...

Magnum Double Raspberry

Image
Magnum is entering the new ice cream for the new year fray with their new Double Raspberry bars.  These bars are Raspberry ice cream dipped in a chocolatey coating, raspberry sauce with other natural flavors, and milk chocolate. I didn't love Double Peanut Butter, Magnum's 2015 new flavor, so I was a little hesitant to pick up Double Raspberry, but decided to do it when I saw they were on sale.  I'm glad I did, as I feel like Magnum is back on track with the Double Raspberry bars after an off year in 2015. These reminded me a bit of the divine Haagen-Dazs Pomegranate Dark Chocolate Bars (which at one point were limited edition, but now look like they are part of the main line) with the tart berry flavor against the rich chocolate. The raspberry ice cream gave off a mild, but present raspberry and cream vibe, and was the perfect ice cream bar texture.  It was airy enough that I could bite through it, as opposed to very dense ice cream where it is dif...

Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Caramel Pizzelle Italian Style Frozen Dessert Bars

Image
I feel like I have been aware of the existence of a wide range of Haagen-Dazs ice cream or gelato bar products, but I hardly see them in stores. I finally used the last of the Haagen-Dazs coupons Madeline gave to me when I was at Target and stumbled upon these guys, and I snatched them up! The description of these bars is Golden caramel ribbons in creamy vanilla gelato, enrobed in rich milk chocolate and pizzelle cookie pieces. So basically these bars are the gelato bar version of Caramel Cone. I don't think I have ever seen the word "enrobed" used in an ice cream description. I think this word is pushing it a bit too far with the flowery language being used in ice cream descriptions. I get ice cream companies want to make their descriptions sound luscious and decadent, but this is ice cream, not a gown. Now, I did not know what a pizzelle cookie was until writing this review. According to my favorite source of information for desserts, Wikipedia, a pi...

Klondike Kandy Bar: Cookies & Cream

Image
I'm going to get right down to it. Klondike is playing with fire with the name of this line of products. Like Klondike Kandy Bars has the two K's, fun alliteration, right? Wrong. It isn't fun to have alliteration with K's. Sure there are only two, but accidentally throw one more into the mix (like the fact that this flavor has two words that start with hard C sounds, oh dear) and you've got trouble. I guess Klondike likes to live on the edge. But almost super racist associations aside, lets talk about ice cream. I bought this product when I had that same coupon with which I purchased the Breyers Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences and the Magnum bars. When I was at the store with this coupon, these Kandy Bars were the only product I knew I was going to buy with it. I love cookies and cream. So much so that I recently (you'll hear more about this later) made a cookies and cream sundae. I especially love those Hershey's Cookies and Cream candy bars. Yum for wh...

Magnum Dark Ice Cream Bar

Image
Not long ago, I must have been super bored, and I sat down and looked through the junk mail. I was lucky to find a coupon for $3.00 off three Breyer's Gelato, Magnum, or Klondike products. I think there were some other products you could use the coupon on, but they were popsicle type products. Not exciting. I haven't reviewed a Magnum product in a while, so I was happy this coupon forced me to buy one. I wanted to try the Magnum White Ice Cream Bar, but HyVee didn't have any. So I picked up these guys instead. The last Magnum product I tried was a Magnum Infinity Bar. I expected these bars to be similar in size to those bars. I was a bit disappointed when I took it out of the wrapper and it was quite a bit smaller. They are at 240 calories, and if I were in my peak of training, I could definitely throw back two of these puppies with no issue. The description of these bars is Vanilla Bean Ice Cream Dipped in Dark Chocolate 60% Cacao. They are also made with Belgian...

Magnum Double Caramel

Image
I know, of all the ice cream bars out there in the world I could review I review another Magnum. My really devoted reader(s) (my mom may in reality be the only person I could consider a devoted reader of this blog) will notice that I have been trying to review a wider variety of ice creams and ice cream products. The beginning of the blog was a little Ben and Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs crazy, admittedly and I'm trying to do better. And to be honest, the day I bought these bars, I really really wasn't trying to buy ice cream that day. It wasn't on my grocery list, it really wasn't. Like, I am one of those people that makes lists for the sake of the sense of satisfaction of crossing things off the list. And if ice cream isn't on my grocery list, what satisfaction would I get from buying it?! None!! BUT! As I wandered down the aisles at Gerbe's, a sign of the goodness of this planet appeared. A coupon dispenser of coupons for $1 of a box of Magnum bars!! A light...

Klondike Bar

Image
Normally when I go to the grocery store, I have a plan for what ice cream I want to buy. However, when I went to Gerbe's this past Monday night, I did not. All I knew was I wanted to get something unlike anything I had reviewed before. I didn't think there would be too many things that fit into that category. I am constantly surprised by the American food system. Even at a pretty small grocery store like Gerbe's I was dumb struck by the number of ice cream options that I hadn't tried. How would I ever decide? Well I wandered up and down the ice cream isle for a bit looking like an idiot before I decided. I swear I looked at the Klondike Bars a few times before I even noticed them and decided to buy them. I don't think I have had a Klondike Bar in years. Despite their really aggressive marketing campaigns (can you even say "What would you do for a Klondike Bar?" without singing it??), Klondike Bars aren't really that special.  Just plain old vanilla i...

Magnum Infinity Chocolate Ice Cream Bar

Image
I decided it is well past time I write a blog post about an ice cream bar. For my first post about an ice cream bar I decided to go with the cream of the crop, a Magnum. I stood in Target for a long while deciding which one of the many flavors of Magnum to try. I opted to go with the Infinity Chocolate for two reasons. First, the description sounded the most scrumptious. Second, as we know there is more than one infinity, right Madeline? And if I had to choose which kind of infinity I had to deal with for, well, forever, I would choose the chocolate kind. Chocolate infinity is real mathematics, fo sho. Also, with my great mathematical authority I would say the chocolate infinity is definitely uncountable. The Magnum Infinity Chocolate Bar is described as Dark Chocolate Ice Cream with a Chocolate Swirl, Dipped in Dark Chocolate and Cocoa Bean Nibs. My excitement level? Through the roof. Anything that describes itself as "Dark Chocolate Ice Cream" makes me salivate. How...

Haagen-Dazs Pomegranate Dark Chocolate Bars

Image
I have been seeing the Haagen-Dazs Pomegranate Dark Chocolate Bars in the grocery stores since at least November or December of last year.  Every time I went to the grocery store I would stop and stare at these and think about bringing them home with me, but would inevitably decide to buy a pint of ice cream instead.  At one point I even took a picture to send to my boyfriend who loves everything pomegranate flavored.  Seriously, he has a problem.  Last week I finally picked up a box.  I figured since it was a limited edition I'd better do it before they went away forever.  Actually, these are not listed on the Haagen-Dazs website so they may not be making them anymore.  In that case GO OUT AND BUY ALL OF THEM YOU CAN FIND!  Either that or Haagen-Dazs hasn't updated their website in a really long time.  I did notice that there are new, supposedly permanent Haagen-Dazs gelato flavors not listed online.  I'm not a huge ice cream b...
