Ben & Jerry's Truffle Kerfuffle

Image
With their new for 2017 flavors, Ben & Jerry's are really calling on some of their old flavors. Oat of this Swirled reminded us of Oatmeal Cookie Chunk and the name of this flavor kind of reminds me of Clusterfluff. Granted, before they brought the flavor to the graveyard they changed the name to What A Cluster, Clusterfluff was one of my most favorite ice creams of all time. And yes, I am only bringing this up as an opportunity to beg for the return of Clusterfluff on the off change anyone from Ben & Jerry's is reading this. But to focus on the matter at hand, Truffle Kerfuffle is a fabulous name of an ice cream and is described as Vanilla Ice Cream with Roasted Pecans, Fudge Chips & a Salted Chocolate Ganache Swirl . To start, I'm going to jump right in with what is arguably the most interesting aspect of this pint, the salted chocolate ganache swirl. Given that this ice cream is called Truffle Kerfuffle, I was expecting this swirl to be like the i...

New for 2017 - Ben and Jerry's Truffle Kerfuffle

Image
I'm calling it right now; Ben and Jerry's Truffle Kerfuffle wins for best-named ice cream of the year.  I love the word 'kerfuffle'! Truffle Kerfuffle is Vanilla ice cream with roasted pecans, fudge flakes, and a salted chocolate ganache swirl.  If you're a regular reader of the blog, you probably know how I feel about Ben and Jerry's vanilla base. If you're not a regular reader, just know that it tastes weakly of fake vanilla.  Luckily, this pint is all about the mix-ins, and not at all about the base (sorry, Meghan Trainor). There were, indeed, a kerfuffle of mix-ins. The pecans were whole or nearly whole. I got one what seemed like every bite, and I definitely got fudge flakes in every spoonful. The fudge flakes were smaller than in some other Ben and Jerry's flavors like Cherry Garcia, but this served Truffle Kerfuffle well because it allowed the pecans to stand out. Is there anything better than perfectly roasted pecans? Roasting ...

Sanders Fine Chocolatiers Bumpy Cake

Image
Sometimes you purchase an ice cream exclusively for the name.  Well, maybe you don't, but I certainly do.  Case in point, I bought  Cedar Crest Pirate's Bounty  because I thought the name was Pirate's Booty and Cedar Crest was making a pun about butts. Tina Belcher is my spirit animal. The same thing happened with Sanders Fine Chocolatiers Bumpy Cake.  No reference to butts this time, but the fact that a type of cake is called 'Bumpy Cake' really tickled my funny bone and I knew I would be taking home a container. I have never heard of Bumpy Cake so I did some sleuthing.  Per Wikipedia, Bumpy Cake is chocolate cake with thick ridges of buttercream frosting covered in chocolate ganache invented by Fred Sanders (founder of Sanders Confectionery) in 1913.  If Fred Sanders wasn't dead, I think he and I would get along very well.  THICK RIDGES OF BUTTERCREAM FROSTING. Sweet Science Polar Plunge Peanut Butter

Image
Sweet Science introduced Polar Plunge Peanut Butter in January as a collaboration with  Buddy's Nut Butter  and the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics.  Every pint purchased gave $1 to the Special Olympics.  What's better than a combination of ice cream, peanut butter, and good citizenship? Nothing. I'm a month late to the game with this flavor, but that's never stopped me from eating and reviewing an ice cream.  This is described as We're proudly partnering with the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Minnesota (SOMN) for a very special flavor and cause.  We made this flavor with help from our buds at Buddy's Nut Butter.  Rich peanut butter ice cream with chunks of chocolate ganach throughout.  Two kinds of pb, two kinds of chocolate, all kinds of delicious. Whoa.  Both the chocolate and the peanut butter were almost bitter, but in the best way possible.  Ganache is made by pouring heated cream over chocolate, typically bitt...
