Dairy Queen June Blizzard of the Month: Cotton Candy

Image
Dairy Queen's Cotton Candy Blizzard has a substantial fan base, and DQ brings the flavor back every once in a while.  I missed last year the last time it was a Blizzard of the Month.  I think DQ has had this on the menu more recently for some sort of promotion, but I missed it then too so this is actually my FIRST time trying the fan-favorite Cotton Candy Blizzard!  This Blizzard is Cotton candy and sprinkles blended with creamy vanilla soft serve. In the past I've bemoaned Dairy Queen using only Vanilla soft-serve as a Blizzard base, but it works really well here.  The point of cotton candy ice cream is to be tooth-achingly sweet, and the vanilla ice cream definitely helps the Cotton Candy Blizzard reach that objective. I thought the use of both cotton candy and sprinkles was really interesting.  There were enough of both to really infuse the Blizzard with cotton candy flavor the whole way through.  The cotton candy pieces had the delightful grai...

Yotopia Frozen Yogurt

Image
I've got to say, I am proud of myself. I'm smoking through the Iowa City frozen dessert offerings. This past Friday, I visted Yotopia with a local fan (can I use that word?) of the blog. Thus, I participated in #FroYoFriday. By which I mean I ate froyo on a Friday, but I did not partake in any social media. It would have required me to take my attention away from my froyo for like 30 seconds and that's way too much time. I have been reviewing a lot of froyo shops as of late, so if you aren't familiar with my 8 step review process for froyo shops, you need to get it together. Please spend more of your life reading my blog and less time doing important, productive activities. 1) The variety of flavors: is there a good selection. 2) The flavor of my choices. 3) The quality of the combination of my choices. 4) The texture of the froyo 5) The variety of the toppings. 6) Quality of the toppings. 7) How well my toppings coordinated with my froyo flavors. 8) Overall ...

Ben and Jerry's: Cotton Candy

Image
With summer so long gone (oh god oh god oh god it was -2 in Minneapolis yesterday!), I thought I would not get a chance to try the summer, Ben and Jerry's, Wal-Mart exclusive Cotton Candy flavor.  Lo and behold, on a trip to Wal-Mart, there were a few pints of Cotton Candy.  Kyle either thinks I'm hilarious or is really annoyed at me because every  time we go to a store I come home with a pint of ice cream. On the actual pint, this flavor is described as Cotton candy ice cream loaded with candy sprinkles. On the Ben and Jerry's website it is described as Cotton candy ice cream loaded with cotton candy pieces. Obviously, I had the pint, so the original description I saw was the first one.  Everything I expected about this ice cream was wrong.  First, I expected this ice cream to be either bright blue or a bright pink in flavor, like every other cotton candy ice cream I have ever seen.  However, this ice cream base was white.  Second, I obviou...

St. Louis Ice Cream Extravaganza

Image
After leaving Minneapolis, Madeline spent ONE WHOLE DAY in the lovely Lou before heading back to Minneapolis. Obviously we knew we would have to make this day an ice cream extravaganza. As I mentioned a little while ago, Jilly's Cupcakes was opening an ice cream bar. There has been a lot of buzz on St. Louis social media about the place. After the flavor list came out and it included My Lucky Charms as a June Chef/Fan Favorite, I knew we had to hit this place up in our ice cream extravaganza. I was obsessed with Lucky Charms as a kid. My love for Lucky Charms went beyond just being my favorite cereal. Seriously, the best Christmas gift I ever got was a special edition box of Lucky Charms that let you color in the box yourself. Look at the cool decor at Jilly's! Ice cream scoops! At Jilly's Ice Cream bar we got two scoops for only $4.50, one of the My Lucky Charms and the other of Gooey Butter Brownie Batter. The My Lucky Charms flavor is described as: Lucky Charms C...
