Homemade Earl Grey Custard with Apricot Jam and Cinnamon Scone Pieces

So obviously Lizzy and I are obsessed with ice cream.  I mean, we started a blog to review ice creams, after all! The obsession, however, goes beyond that: I occasionally MAKE MY OWN ICE CREAM!  I've made a few flavors in the past, but this is the first time I'm reviewing one on the blog. This weekend I made Earl Grey Custard with apricot jam and cinnamon scone pieces. My friend Alex's family makes jams every year.  Last year we mixed some of the peach jam into graham cracker ice cream.  This year he had apricot jam and gave me his ONLY jar of it so I could use it in ice cream.  I immediately thought of doing a 'tea time' themed ice cream using the jam, but decided to go with Earl Grey instead of the more common green tea ice cream.  After these two elements, I thought, "Why not just go bonkers and add some scone pieces? Why not go absolutely bonkers and add some cinnamon scone pieces?" So I did. SCONES. I used the recipe for Earl Grey Tea ice c...

Homemade Jeni's Salty Caramel Ice Cream with Raspberry Sauce

So my roommate, Rachel, has the best parents. They got me the coolest Christmas gift. Wooops. I mean they got her  the coolest Christmas gift. I just get to benefit from it. They got her the ice cream maker attachment for her Kitchenaid Mixer and the Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home cookbook. As she flipped through the cookbook looking for what she was going to make first, she pointed out to me that every ice cream recipe in the book included cream cheese. This was kind of surprising to me, but the more I think about it and the more Jeni's and Jeni's homemade ice cream I eat, the more it makes sense to me. Jeni's has a really unique texture, which I think might be explained by the inclusion of cream cheese. The ice cream in the mixer!! Yum Swirlyswirlyswirlyswirl Another cool thing about this recipe book is that includes little tidbits about how Jeni's actually makes their ice cream, tips to make ice cream at home, and just info about ice cream...

EPIC FAIL

So blogger.com is a bit silly and won't let both Madeline and I contribute to the same post from our two different accounts. Lame. So Lizzy will be writing in this font. And Madeline will be writing in this font.  Yesterday, Madeline and I attempted to make ice cream with her vintage ice cream maker she got as a birthday present from our parents. We decided to make Rocky Road (chocolate ice cream with marshmallows and pecans) and Ginger Peach ice creams. We had a recipe for the Rocky Road and a Peach ice cream recipe and we were just sort of winging it with the ginger part of things. We bought much dairy product at the grocery store and very peaches and even more ginger. Making the bases was super easy and they tasted delicious from our samplings. We took everything over to Madeline's friends' house, bought lots of ice and lots of salt and we were all set to get churning.  Such dairy. Wow. At first things seemed to be going great.  We had alternating layers of ice and...
