Cree Mee Drive In Banana Split

Image
In the winter I tried Eldon Drive-In's banana split. In the ultimate quest to decide which drive in joint serves better ice cream, I had to try Cree Mee's banana split. The first and most important difference between Cree Mee's banana split and Eldon Drive-In's is at Cree Mee you customize your own banana split. They serve it with any three sauces you pick from their list. I decided on marshmallow, hot fudge, and raspberry. If you don't like an element of Eldon Drive-In's banana split, well too bad. I like pineapple topping, which is on the Eldon Drive-In banana split, but I don't love it, biasing me toward Cree Mee. On the other hand, at Cree Mee, as T.I. tells us, "you can have whatever you like." The second major difference is the size. Eldon Drive-Ins was much bigger. So much bigger, the last few bites weren't enjoyable. Cree Mee's was much more manageable. But I will admit, sometimes you need a massive banana split. In tha...

Ted Drewes: The Christy

Image
If you have been to Ted Drewes, you have heard of the Christy sundae. It is definitely a classic, but I have never tried it! I really don't often get sundaes at Ted Drewes because I am so partial to concretes. But the last time I reviewed Ted Drewes, I got a concrete, so I decided to mix it up and get a sundae. Such a beautiful sundae, under the gorgeous yellow lights of the Ted Drewes sign. When my friends, Bronwyn and Katy, and I pulled up to Ted Drewes last Saturday night, we experienced what many experience when arriving at Ted Drewes in the summer, especially on a weekend. The crowd was huge, the parking lot was packed, and in general, it was just a zoo. When looking at a scene like that, you can't help but think, "This is going to take for ever." But we persevered, knowing that the Ted Drewes staff are total pros. We parked at the Catholic supply store across and played a pretty exciting game of frogger to get across the street. Laughing at the Catholic ...

Andy's Frozen Custard

Image
Alright St. Louisans, it is time to face reality. There is  other frozen custard in the world besides Ted Drewes. I know it is hard to face, but it exists and it deserves to be reviewed. Down at the Lake of the Ozarks exists Andy's Frozen Custard. At the end of quite the fun filled day, I stopped at Andy's with a few friends. First things first, Andy's is cute. It's like a place.  Not that Ted Drewes isn't a place, but if you were to drive by when there was no on there (which is never, but let us just pretend) you wouldn't know it was a thing . Andy's looks like a thing . EDIT: The reason Andy's looks all cute and like a thing . It is a multi-state chain. I did not know that when I first wrote this post. Second. Andy's is a drive through. Woah. If I have learned one thing about Central Missouri it is that people glue their butts to their car seats. Literally every thing is a drive through/in. Third. Andy's has something that Ted D...

Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream: Ice Cream for Breakfast Day

Image
This past Saturday was Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, a very made up holiday . This holiday is celebrated the first Saturday in February and recently has been gaining in popularity. This year in St. Louis THREE different ice cream shops, Jilly's Ice Cream Bar, I Scream Cakes, and Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream, were celebrating the occasion. I was having a really difficult time deciding which event to go to. If there had only been two events I might have tried to hit both, but with three I decided I might as well pick one. I have been to Jilly's a number of times because it is really close to where all my St. Louis friend live, so I decided to pass on that. Either Serendipity or I Scream Cakes need some Big Muddy love. I ended up going with Serendipity for two reasons. One, they were giving away free mugs if you wore your pajamas to their event. I love mugs, especially free ones, and I'll take any excuse to wear PJs in public (still disappointed that my school has not h...

Reader Request: Eldon Drive-In Banana Split

Image
This one has been on my Eldon bucket list for a while now. I have heard from many people in Eldon that I had to get a Eldon Drive-In banana split and review it. I had also been told that if I get one of these I should split it with some one. Haha split a banana split. Ha. Ha. However, I would never. Because I care about you guys, my Dearest Readers. I want to give you guys the most accurate picture of the full experience of the Eldon Drive-In banana split. And if that is me feeling like I am going to vom, or actually voming, than so be it. I would not be able to consider myself a respectable ice cream blogger if I didn't eat every last bite of this banana split. I wouldn't throughly be able to comment on the size if I didn't eat the whole thing. I was also pretty confident I could eat the whole thing no problemo. I ate a light dinner that night and I have years of ice cream eating experience to rely on. Trust in your training. Granted, I think my friend Claire would...

Central Dairy: Chocolate Mint Chip

Image
Earlier in January, when my boyfriend, Brett, was visiting me in Eldon, we drove out to Versailles to the amazing Mennonite market, Weaver's. A few thing about this place. First, when you are in Missouri, it's pronounced Versails. Second, I can easily drop like $50 on things that aren't actually food, just impulse buys, at Weaver's. They just have everything you could ever want, like amazing homemade salsa, and homemade jam, and pickled asparagus, and banana peppers, and cappuccino peanut butter, and flavored hot cocoa mixes, and grapefruit gummies, and purple sweet potato chips, and omg yum. When I was there with Brett I bought some tasty looking little Green Mint Chocolate Chips. Then, once I decided to start doing some Sundae Sundays or Sunday Sundaes or whatever you want to call them, I knew I had to do a mint chocolate chip sundae. One of the fun things about doing Sunday Sundae is that is giving me an opportunity to try/review some more basic flavors. I have...

Ices Plain and Fancy: Campfire S'mores

Image
Oh my word I have started 2015 out with a bang. Ben & Jerry's SNL flavor on New Years Day, then Madeline, Brett, Kyle and I went to Ices Plain and Fancy on day 2 of 2015. Back in September, Brett and I visited Ices Plain and Fancy (review here ). You may remember that I was really impressed with the Pink Pepper Pickled Ginger flavor that I got and that Brett really enjoyed his Mint Chocolate Chip, but that I was overall unimpressed by the small selection. Later in the fall, the selection size of Ices Plain and Fancy went majorly up when they introduced their boozy ices. It seemed that these new boozy ices were going to be the center piece of Ices Plain and Fancy and that ice cream for those 20 and under might take a back seat. However, this was not true at all. They had expanded their nitro ices menu to include regular nitro ices and "fancy" ices. One of the fancy ices was called Campfire S'mores. That is what I initially wanted to get; however, the $6.99 pr...

Crown Candy Kitchen

Image
It's about time. A review of Crown Candy Kitchen. There are so many fabulous places to get ice cream in St. Louis and the fact that Madeline and I don't actually live in St. Louis any more makes it quite difficult to review them. Yesterday, Madeline, my boyfriend, Brett, and I took a trip up to the Old North side of St. Louis to visit Crown Candy Kitchen, an adorable old-fashioned soda fountain that makes amazing candy, ice cream, and sandwiches. Crown Candy Kitchen opened in 1913 and is actually St. Louis' oldest soda fountain. Not to go into too much St. Louis history, but these days a lot more people know a thing or two about North St. Louis than they used to. I'll just say that it's kind of awkward that there are all these county white people on this one block of North St. Louis. Just look at the section of this map that says, "Out of Place White People Eating Ice Cream." That would be Crown Candy Kitchen. A sort of blurry picture of the m...
