Haagen Dazs Non-Dairy Mocha Chocolate Cookie and Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle

Image
Haagen-Dazs recently released a line of four non-dairy flavors exclusively available at Target to surprisingly little fanfare. I picked up the two chocolate flavors Mocha Chocolate Cookie and Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle, because chocolate.  These flavors were both very good, and I was originally planning to write two separate reviews but they tasted so similar that I wanted emphasize their similarity by comparing and contrasting them within one review. Mocha Chocolate Cookie: A luxurious foundation of rich Belgian chocolate and fragrant coffee is blended together with swirls of cookie crumble and pieces of chocolate cookie. Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle: We start with lavishly rich Belgian chocolate for that truer chocolate flavor, before blending in swirls of salted fudge and chunks of fudge truffle for the ultimate indulgence. Most non-dairy ice cream, including Ben and Jerry's line and many brands specializing in non-dairy desserts substitute almond, cashew, or...

Ben & Jerry's Truffle Kerfuffle

Image
With their new for 2017 flavors, Ben & Jerry's are really calling on some of their old flavors. Oat of this Swirled reminded us of Oatmeal Cookie Chunk and the name of this flavor kind of reminds me of Clusterfluff. Granted, before they brought the flavor to the graveyard they changed the name to What A Cluster, Clusterfluff was one of my most favorite ice creams of all time. And yes, I am only bringing this up as an opportunity to beg for the return of Clusterfluff on the off change anyone from Ben & Jerry's is reading this. To start, I'm going to jump right in with what is arguably the most interesting aspect of this pint, the salted chocolate ganache swirl. Given that this ice cream is called Truffle Kerfuffle, I was expecting this swirl to be like the i...

New for 2017 - Ben and Jerry's Truffle Kerfuffle

I'm calling it right now; Ben and Jerry's Truffle Kerfuffle wins for best-named ice cream of the year.  I love the word 'kerfuffle'! Truffle Kerfuffle is Vanilla ice cream with roasted pecans, fudge flakes, and a salted chocolate ganache swirl.  If you're a regular reader of the blog, you probably know how I feel about Ben and Jerry's vanilla base. If you're not a regular reader, just know that it tastes weakly of fake vanilla.  Luckily, this pint is all about the mix-ins, and not at all about the base (sorry, Meghan Trainor). There were, indeed, a kerfuffle of mix-ins. The pecans were whole or nearly whole. I got one what seemed like every bite, and I definitely got fudge flakes in every spoonful. The fudge flakes were smaller than in some other Ben and Jerry's flavors like Cherry Garcia, but this served Truffle Kerfuffle well because it allowed the pecans to stand out. Is there anything better than perfectly roasted pecans? Roasting ...
