David's Famous Gourmet Frozen Custard: Dutch Chocolate

Image
Another David's flavor to cross off the list! In not too long, I'll have tried every flavor. I will feel so much satisfaction. Nothing makes me happier than being able to check off every item on a list. This flavor is described as Dutch Chocolate was our favorite flavor . It is rich and smooth and creamy  and tastes like no other chocolate ice cream you've ever tried . This is a picture from when Madeline reviewed the flavor. My pint looked similar enough I felt I could include this picture. Before I start describing this flavor, I need to admit I made a huge mistake. A huge n00b mistake. I did not serve myself David's in a bowl. I ate it straight out of the container. I had no intentions of eating the entire pint in one sitting. I was talking to Brett on the phone, and trying to be a good girlfriend. I was thinking, "I am not going to ask him if I can hang up so I can take a picture of this ice cream. I'll only eat part of the pint and take a pic...

Every David's Famous Gourmet Frozen Custard Flavor Ever!

Image
Long post alert! I ate an entire pint (minus a tiny bit) of ice cream seven nights in a row.  This sounds like some sort of religious thing; the oil lasting for eight days; it rained for forty days and forty nights.  I suppose if the particular ice cream I ate wasn't somewhat close to a religious experience I wouldn't have completed this arduous task. So, why, exactly, did I do this? You can read here  about how I was able to meet David, the founder of David's Famous Gourmet Frozen Custard and take home pints of all seven flavors currently offered by the company.  I wanted to have a pretty quick turnaround on flavor reviews, so I made the incredibly difficult decision to eat a pint of ice cream a day until I was done with all of the flavors. Let me tell you, it was so hard </sarcasm>. Before I talk about the flavors I will talk a bit about the texture because it was pretty consistent across all of the flavors.  David's has a pretty high overrun (how...

Missouri State Fair Ice Cream

Image
This past weekend I went to the Missouri State Fair for the first time EVER! The fair is every year in Sedalia, Missouri, which is about an hour northwest of Eldon. The drive was all on rural highways by cute little towns and beautiful farms. The first places we saw were a handful of ice cream options at the state fair. There were some just soft serve places and one spot that said "homemade ice cream" in the general food section. But those spots looked like all the rest of the food booths offering turkey legs and funnel cakes and other standard fair food, that really isn't unique or exciting. So those spots were not the place for me. As we wandered around the fair some more we saw two spots that looked like good options. One was ice cream made by the Missouri Dairy Association and the other was ice cream made by Mizzou Agriculture Students. From another AmeriCorps member I had heard about Tiger Stripe ice cream made by Mizzou Agriculture Students, so I decided this was th...
