For the second day of my LA adventure I was hanging out with my friend Katy in Little Tokyo where her boyfriend, Tom, lives. Our plan was to go to a nearby branch of the LA modern art museum and then get ice cream somewhere. As we went out for our morning run, we walked around the other side of Tom's apartment building and discovered that he lived above an LA Ice Cream Lab spot!! It can't get more convenient than that! LA Ice Cream Lab is a liquid nitrogen ice cream place, kind of like Ices Plain & Fancy in St. Louis. At these places, they make, aka freeze with liquid nitrogen, your ice cream right in front of you in individual servings. She's making my ice cream! The menu at LA Ice Cream Lab was short. They had vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and cookies and cream which I think you can get year round. Located just East of St. Louis University, The Fountain on Locust is one of my favorite St. Louis restaurants. They boast great food, great ice cream, fun cocktails and ICE CREAM COCKTAILS! Combining ice cream and alcohol is really an amazing and wonderful thing and I don't quite understand why it isn't done more often. So to continue to describe The Fountain on Locust, which is really tough because there are so many cool things about it. First, the interior is all art-deco-y which is super cool, and has made The Fountain the most photographed restaurant in St. Louis! They also can serve you the world's smallest ice cream cone and world's smallest ice cream sundae. How cool is that?! The only problem is, their ice cream treats are sooo good you would never want to order just a little bit! Dearest reader, I have to begin this blog entry with an apology. I went to an ice cream shop and I didn't take any pictures of the ice cream I ate. I am so sorry, you'll just have to put up with my writing with no pictures to make it actually interesting. Right now I am in the Denver area with my dad visiting his family. After what was supposed to be a four hour hike to the top of James Peak turned into a seven hour bushwhacking adventure when our trail was covered in snow, obviously we were all due for some ice cream. On our way back to Denver we stopped in the town of Idaho Springs to find an ice cream shop. We spotted the Georgetown Valley Candy Company, which also serves ice cream, and decided this was the perfect place to stop.
