Februray Blizzard of the Month: Red Velvet

Image
Lizzy has this crazy idea that she wants someone to produce a Red Velvet cake ice cream that is light on the cream cheese flavor.  I think she is insane.  Without cream cheese frosting, Red Velvet cake is just oddly colored chocolate cake.  Booooorring!  If you are part of Lizzy's anti-cream cheese cabal, you will hate this ice cream.  If you are a normal, cream cheese-loving human being, you will love it! Per Dairy Queen the Red Velvet Blizzard is A mix of creamy soft serve, decadent red velvet cake pieces and cream cheese frosting.  So delicious, it's sure to be love at first bite. Before the review, an interesting tidbit from Wikipedia about Red Velvet Cake: " All [red velvet cakes] used red food coloring, but the reaction of acidic vinegar and buttermilk tends to better reveal the red anthocyanin in cocoa and keeps the cake moist, light, and fluffy." Dutch processing, which is very common, prevents this color change. The first bite of this B...

Ben & Jerry's Red Velvet Cake

Red velvet cake is definitely high on my list of favorite non ice cream desserts. I tried this flavor for the first time almost 4 years ago and didn't really like it. And I honestly don't think I have had it since then. But around Valentine's Day there were lots of new red velvet desserts that I saw in stores. There were red velvet Oreo's (which were AMAZING) and there were red velvet M&M's exclusive to Wal-Mart, which were also pretty good. This obviously meant I needed to do a red velvet Sundae Sunday, so this ice cream had to be my base. The only other red velvet ice cream I have seen is from Blue Bell and I couldn't find any, so Ben & Jerry's it was. Pretty in pink! Another knock on this ice cream before we even start. I hate discrepancies. On the website the description of this flavor is Red Velvet Cake Batter Ice Cream with Red Velvet Cake Pieces & a Cream Cheese Frosting Swirl . The description on the pint is Red Velvet Cake Ice ...

Izzy's Chubby Bunny and Tiny Ice Cream

Image
Saturday was National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, and I obviously really wanted to go out and get ice cream for breakfast.  I'm was sure  that there would me an ice cream parlor somewhere  in the twin cities holding an event for breakfast.  I mean Lizzy had 3 events in St. Louis to choose from.  Unfortunately, Minneapolis really dropped the ball on Ice Cream for Breakfast day.  No special hours, nothing.  I decided I still wanted to get ice cream, and could celebrate the day by having ice cream for breakfast-for-dinner.  It's a stretch, but whatever. I also want to mention something really cool that Izzy's is doing for the first part of February.  Each day for the first 13 days of February, Izzy's will donate $2 from each single scoop cup or cone purchased to a different charity each day as part of their  13 days of giving .  They also give you a coupon for $2 off a pizza at a local pizza parlor which is awesome.  My purcha...
