Yotopia: Honey Lavender and Tart

Image
Man, what a crazy week this has been. I've done a lot of going out with friends, because that's the life of a graduate student in the summer! Take advantage of the free time while you've got it. And by free time I simply mean a schedule even more flexible than normal, but just let me pretend that the Netflixing and going out I've been doing is warranted. However, not a lot of my going out has involved ice cream eating, so I feel like my reviews have been coming a little slowly as of late. Luckily, one night this past week included going to Yotopia after getting dinner with some friends! The main purpose of this trip was to convince one of my friends that Yotopia is way better than Aspen Leaf. I got quite a few eye rolls as I expounded upon the wonders of the local dairy and no powdered mixes used to make Yotopia's froyo, but then again, the taste of Yotopia's froyo speaks quite nicely for itself. It's a little heart breaking that they misspelled "l...

Sweet Science Lavender White Chocolate

Image
I recently attended my second Sweet Science free tasting, this one held at Five Watt Coffee.  Going in to the event, I knew I would be coming home with a pint of their February flavor Lavender White Chocolate before I even tried it.  It was too unique to pass up.  Lavender is one of my favorite scents and I couldn't wait to try it in ice cream form.  I liked the small sample I tried, so I got even more excited to take home my pint and break it open.  Lavender White Chocolate is Behind the hints of white chocolate sweetness we've tossed in luscious notes of lavender to add just the right amount of flavor, giving this little number the perfect balance.  It's a blend that works together seamlessly and deliciously, and will have you coming back for more. I really liked this flavor, but it took quite a long time to grow on me.  I do not have lavender in food very often, so my brain associates the smell of lavender with things like deodorant, perfum...

Arctic Island Ice Cream

Image
Growing up, arctic was one of those words I had a lot of trouble spelling when I was growing up. Mostly because nobody actually pronounces the first "c." Writing this blog post is going to be a spelling struggle. It was my last day in Syracuse and my grandmother and I realized we had only been to one ice cream shop my whole visit. Luckily, my flight wasn't until the afternoon, so there was time to visit one more. Arctic Island is not too far down the road from Gannon's. And in internet ice cream world (aka people commenting on a list of the best ice cream shops in the area) there is much debate about which is better, Gannon's or Arctic Island. My cousins Jack and Ben, used to like Arctic Island more than Gannon's, but as of late the tides have turned. Given the amount of ice cream my cousin, Jack, eats (he had three times the amount of ice cream I did when we were at Gannon's), I think their opinions are trustworthy. The big deal at Arctic Is...
