Provo Adventures Part II: Roll With It Creamery

Image
Not only was the weekend ice cream crew willing to go out of their way to get ice cream in Provo, they were even game to stop at two separate ice cream shops.  The first was the excellent Rockwell Ice Cream Co (review  here ) and the second was Roll With It Creamery, specializing in Thai rolled ice cream. What is Thai rolled ice cream?  Basically, you start with liquid ice cream base, pour it in a thin layer on flat, cold metal surface and stir and scrape it until it freezes.  When it is frozen into a sheet, you take a spatula and scrape it off of the metal plate using a spatula into a roll. I've wanted to try Thai rolled ice cream ever since it became a ~thing~ on Instagram, and never in my life did I think I'd get to try it in Utah.  I thought I'd have to travel to California or New York or wait months for the trend to percolate to the rest of the country.  I've had multiple people tell me (somewhat jokingly and somewhat not) that they eat lots o...

Yotopia March Madness

Image
For many people, March is one of the best months of the year because of March Madness. Now that I live in Iowa, I would count myself among this group. And no, this is not because of the basketball tournament, seeing as Iowa was trounced by Villanova in the second round. The reason I, as an Iowa resident, now love March is because Yotopia has their own March Madness. I topped my froyo kiwi, strawberries, and butterscotch chips, which went great with the Bourbon Caramel. But I mostly ate the toppings separately from the froyo so I could truly appreciate and evaluate the flavors! Every two days, Yotopia is having two battles between two flavors. They started with a total of twelve flavors, Irish Mint vs. Irish Cream Cupcake, White Chocolate Raspberry vs. Cherry Vanilla, Taro Root vs. Honey Lavender, Chai Tea Spice vs. Ginger Lemongrass, Hibiscus Guava vs. Peach Tea, and Nutella vs. Bourbon Caramel. The first two match ups passed and I didn't get a chance to try them and Yotopi...

Ice Cream at Molly's Cupcakes

Image
I know what you are thinking. This is not a dessert blog. We've had the discussion, we've had the debate. This is an ice cream blog and nothing more. And don't worry. I am not about to review cupcakes. However, there is a cupcake shop in Iowa City which also sells ice cream. I was out getting a few drinks during happy hour at a bar with some people, and while headed home, I missed my bus. Obviously, instead of waiting an hour for the next bus, I decided to walk home. Not too long after my walk started, I stumbled upon Molly's Cupcakes. A sign out front told me they had a few flavors of ice cream. My walk was long enough I definitely needed ice cream to help me get home. The sign out front telling me there was ice cream listed the flavors available that day. I believed the list read as follows: "Cookie dough, peanut butter, Nutella, cake batter." The Nutella sounded like it would totally hit the spot, so I ordered it. When it was handed to me, my se...
