Glampfire Trail Mix (NEW! Target Exclusive)
Glampfire Trail Mix, chocolate ice cream with crunchy pretzel swirls, marshmallow swirls, and fudge-covered almonds, is Ben and Jerry's ode to glamping. What is glamping? Let the delightful Tom Haverford explain it to you:
Glamping is basically camping with enough amenities that you're not ~inconvenienced~ by the great outdoors. Ben and Jerry's Glampfire Trail Mix is very aptly named. Trail mix is a great, calorie-dense snack for when you're out hiking all day. Glampfire Trail Mix is a great, calorie-dense snack for when you're in your Skymall-outfitted tent that is furnished with a freezer!
I'm not typically a fan of Ben and Jerry's chocolate base, but I liked it here. I'm not sure if they've tweaked the recipe or if the mix-ins in Glampfire Trail Mix just complement the base very well. Whatever the cause, the chocolate base seems richer, darker, and creamier than I remember.
The marshmallow swirl is fantastic, but is unfortunately overpowered by the chocolate base. If you manage to get an isolated bite of marshmallow swirl it's a the exact consistency and flavor of the thick, sweet, sticky inside of a melted marshmallow.
Fudge-covered almonds were absolutely the correct mix-in choice. The strong, nutty taste of the almonds adds a nice umami dimension to the sweetness of the chocolate base and marshmallow swirl, preventing the flavor from flying into the region of cloying sweetness.
I'm ALMOST POSITIVE there is/was another Ben and Jerry's flavor that used a pretzel swirl and I cannot remember the name. It is definitely possible I'm confusing it for a flavor from a different brand, but I could swear it was B&J's. If it was a Ben and Jerry's flavor, they've massively improved their pretzel swirl. If it is a another brand, whoever you are, you better step up your game because Ben and Jerry's pretzel swirl is out of this world!!!!!!!!
The pretzel swirl doesn't stand out visually like the marshmallow swirl, but it really stands out taste--wise. It's base flavor is a rich, yeasty-bordering-on-beery, bready pretzel with a strong salty element. It has a grainy texture that truly reminds of a pretzel without the dryness of a pretzel.
I'm rating this š¦š¦š¦/4. Why not higher? I was really disappointed that the marshmallow swirl faded into the base.
