Belmont Pumpkin Praline
It's the end of October and I haven't posted any reviews of pumpkin flavors!!!! Since I haven't been blogging as much this semester, I didn't want to re-review any pumpkin flavors I've already tried like Ben and Jerry's or Talenti's pumpkin flavors, so my choices were limited. On a whim, I picked up some Belmont Pumpkin Praline from Aldi's.
Pumpkin Praline is pumpkin ice cream with cheese frosting swirls and praline pecans.
Belmont is premium, rather than super premium ice cream, so higher overrun (airier) and less fat content than you may be used to if you typically stick to super premium brands like Haagen-Dazs, Ben and Jerry's or 'boutique' ice creams. This was evident in the texture, which was light and airy, but didn't decrease the impact of the flavor.
The base achieved an exquisite balance between pumpkin and spice. The pumpkin flavor was very strong and actually tasted like pumpkin with just a hint of cinnamon and cloves to warm things up. Often, pumpkin spice flavors are way too heavy on the spice and way too light on the pumpkin, but Belmont got it right.
I didn't necessarily taste the cream cheese swirls as a distinct element, but I think they gave the base pockets of richness which helped counter the airiness of the base.
The pralines were phenomenal. In some bites I got the lighter nuttiness and sweetness of raw or lightly roasted pecans, but other pecans were more deeply roasted which unlocked an incredibly dark, deep, and complex flavor with notes of chocolate and spice. Nom. There definitely could have been more pecans. Probably slightly less than half of the spoonfuls had no pecans. Taking this number down to ~20% would really elevate the flavor.
I'll rate Belmont Pumpkin Praline 🍦🍦.5/4 cones. It doesn't get a higher rating mainly for the texture and lack of delicious, delicious pralines; however, if there is an Aldi's near you, you should DEFINITELY hunt down this flavor.
