Reader Request: Graeter's Cookie Dough
Happy Belated 4th of July Dear Reader! Two days ago, on the 4th, I sampled the second flavor of Graeter's I bought as requested by reader, Sarah! Cookie Dough is just about my favorite flavor of ice cream ever. After how much I enjoyed the Graeter's Strawberry Chip, I had high expectations for this ice cream.
To celebrate the 4th in classic Handschy-Palumbo fashion, we ate burgers/veggie burgers topped with made from scratch guacamole, a watermelon salad, popsicles, and of course, ice cream. This pint had gotten wedged in the back of our freezer, so when Madeline and I got it out, our ice cream scooping attempts were wildly ineffective. We even waited a few minutes and the ice cream was still very hard. But at this point, we wanted our ice cream NOW so we just muscled it out of the container.
So you may be asking, what did the ultimate cookie dough lover think of this flavor? The vanilla base was delightful and pretty strongly vanilla flavored, and the chocolate chips, in classic Graeter's fashion, did not disappoint. The container didn't actually say there would be any chocolate chips in the ice cream so I was pleasantly surprised, or maybe even relieved, that there were. And the texture was perfect hard, but not too hard, and wonderful when melty that Graeter's is known for.
But Lizzyyyy what about the cookie dough, the most important part?!? What did you think of that???? Welllll, to be honest my feelings are mixed about the Greater's cookie dough. The dough itself was fabulous. You could taste, and even feel, the brown sugar in the grainy texture of the dough. The dough was also very moist and never dry. But, the chunks were small, maybe around lima bean sized, and there could have been more of them. These were no Ben and Jerry style chunks. But then again, the dough in Ben and Jerry's cookie dough can be dry sometimes. Maybe it's just difficult to get big chunks of cookie dough in ice cream without it being dry. Overall, I was very pleased with Graeter's cookie dough flavor, but don't be surprised if you see me trying to sneak more doughy goodness into one of these pints.
Thank you to our wonderful hand model, Madeline.

See the itty-bitty lima bean sized cookie dough chunks? They are dwarfed by my spoon AND the chocolate chips!
