Haagen Dazs Non-Dairy Mocha Chocolate Cookie and Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle

Image
Haagen-Dazs recently released a line of four non-dairy flavors exclusively available at Target to surprisingly little fanfare. I picked up the two chocolate flavors Mocha Chocolate Cookie and Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle, because chocolate.  These flavors were both very good, and I was originally planning to write two separate reviews but they tasted so similar that I wanted emphasize their similarity by comparing and contrasting them within one review. Mocha Chocolate Cookie: A luxurious foundation of rich Belgian chocolate and fragrant coffee is blended together with swirls of cookie crumble and pieces of chocolate cookie. Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle: We start with lavishly rich Belgian chocolate for that truer chocolate flavor, before blending in swirls of salted fudge and chunks of fudge truffle for the ultimate indulgence. Most non-dairy ice cream, including Ben and Jerry's line and many brands specializing in non-dairy desserts substitute almond, cashew, or

Haagen-Dazs Limited Edition Sea Salt Caramel Truffle

Typically, when Haagen-Dazs does a limited edition, they do it right. They're seasonal/limited edition Peppermint Bark is divine, and years later I still find myself lamenting the passing of Coconut Macaroon and Spiced Caramel Biscuit. I was excited to find their latest limited edition creation, Sea Salt Caramel Truffle. I was fully expecting this to be great, but a small part of my mind couldn't help but think that salted caramel truffle flavors are so tired by now. Thankfully Haagen-Dazs produced a well-executed classic instead of putting a mediocre flavor into a saturated market and hoping to make it sell by labeling it 'limited edition.' Sea Salt Caramel Truffle has  rich fudge truffles folded into sea salt caramel ice cream for a decadent indulgence. I get so down on salted caramel ice cream because so much of it is utter crap, but then something like Sea Salt Caramel Truffle comes along to remind me that it's not that I hate salted caramel, it's t

Ben & Jerry's Limited Batch Bob Marley's One Love

So this flavor has been out for a bit, but Madeline and I both have struggled finding this flavor and then BOOM within a couple of days we both had our hands on a pint. When I was staying in the North East, my roommate got home from grocery shopping and pulled out a pint from her bag. I immediately freaked (she did not know at this time that I wrote an ice cream blog) and asked her where she found the pint. Interestingly she found it at a Halal market/convenience store. They were closing in an hour, but I rushed over and got a pint right then. Now, this flavor is described as Banana Ice Cream with Caramel & Graham Cracker Swirls & Fudge Peace Signs. It has been a long time since I've had a B&J's flavor with a banana base. I go back and fourth about whether or not I actually like banana ice cream. I don't go out of my way to eat it, but usually I enjoy it. This base was strong, as I think all banana ice creams are inherently, but it wasn't the rip

Blue Bunny Cookies 'N Cream Bunny Snacks

Image
Because it's only Tuesday and I'm already having a crappy week, I'm going to start this review with a complaint. These are called Cookies 'N Cream  Bunny Snacks. Now, what's wrong with that? There should be two apostrophes! In transforming "and" to "n," there are two places where letters are removed, necessitating two apostrophes! Dearest readers, I'm having that kind ofweek. The Cookies 'N' Cream Bunny Snacks are chocolate cookie layered with cookies 'n cream reduced fat ice cream enrobed in white confectionary coating with chocolate cookie pieces. These would have been great if they hadn't been geared toward the 'low-fat' crowd, but alas, they fell into many of the same traps as other low-fat ice cream. My biggest complaint is that the ice cream and shell tasted a bit oily and waxy, respectively. Does substituting oil products for dairy products in ice cream lower the fat content and calorie count? Doing a to

Gelato Fiasco Strawberry

Image
Hello friends! Last summer while traveling I brought you reviews of Gelato Fiasco's Almond Butter Chocolate Chunk and Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp. The Almond Butter Chocolate Chunk was THE best gelato I ate last year and the second best flavor of any kind of frozen dessert I tried in 2016. Since I was back on the East Coast I definitely wanted to try another Gelato Fiasco flavor.  The color of this strawberry flavor, the cute pink, caught my eye in the grocery store so I picked it up. This flavor is described on the Gelato Fiasco website as Simple and smooth, strawberries are combined with a touch of lemon juice and our fresh cream base for a silky and fruity gelato. The taste of this flavor matched the color. The color was a light pink and the gelato was sweet and fruity. It was definitely made with high quality real strawberries, no artificial flavoring here. I didn't notice the lemon, but this flavor was both fresh and fruity tasting, while also creamy. I'm bettin
