Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup

This post is for you archaeology fans.
Not really, but kinda. I like to call my style of eating Ben & Jerry's the Archaeological Dig Style. And Peanut Butter Cup is one of the best Ben & Jerry's flavors for this style. To describe this style: instead of just eating the pint from top to bottom like a normal person, someone who employs the Archaeological Dig Style searches for the big chunks, and once they are located, they are excavated. I really think it's the best way to go about things.

Sorry I don't have a banana for scale, a spoon will have to do.

To really switch gears now, last time I reviewed a Ben & Jerry's flavor I made a promise that I would look more into what changed for the worse when Uniliver bought Ben & Jerry's. I found two things. First, Uniliver did some downsizing, eliminating jobs in a company committed to providing as many good, reasonably paying jobs as possible. Second, Uniliver got ride of some shops at which 40% of the workers were high risk youth. These shops also helped the kids gain life skills, like opening a bank account and completing a high school equivalency exam. This sounds like a really cool program and it is something I wish Ben & Jerry's could have kept. However, all in all it sounds like Ben & Jerry's got to keep the vast majority of the policy's that makes B&J's awesome.

To switch gears again: the ice cream. My expectations are high for this ice cream and I know they are going to be met. This is an old classic I've had many times. Described as, Peanut Butter Ice Cream with Peanut Butter Cups.

The thing I love most about this ice cream is the size of the cups. They are huge. Enormous. Gargantuan. They are also some of the best pb cups around. Maybe even better than Reese's. They have a higher peanut butter to chocolate ration than Reese's and most other pb cups out there in ice creams, and the peanut butter inside them is delish.

Another reason that the size of the cups is great is that the size enables you to have a high chunk to ice cream ratio without overwhelming the actual ice cream. There is a lot of pb cup in there but not a ton of pb cups, if that makes sense. So if you want to just have a bite of Ben & Jerry's wonderful peanut butter ice cream, you can do that. The peanut butter ice cream is fabulously rich and creamy and definitely able to stand on its own.
The one possible down side to this ice cream? The calories. I'm not at all a calorie counter, but it's hard to deny that this guy is a whopper, as are most peanut focused ice creams. This bad boy weighs in at 370 calories per half cup. But there's 7 grams of protein per half cup, so this ice cream is good work out recovery, right? Right!
