Ben and Jerry's Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream

It wouldn't be a proper 4th of July without ice cream! (Well, for me, it wouldn't be a proper any day without ice cream.) There is no better ice cream to eat on this day than the freedom-filled flavor Americone Dream from Ben and Jerry's.  This flavor is

Vanilla ice cream with fudge covered waffle cone pieces and a caramel swirl.

Per Ben and Jerry's, it contains 1776% of your recommended daily allowance of freedom! Per me, it tastes like eating a bald eagle!

So, how does thin B&J's/Stephen Colbert collaboration taste? Delightful.  The vanilla flavor was a simple, sweet, and clean backdrop for the rest of the flavors.  There were tons and tons of giant cone pieces.  The waffle cone itself was crunchy and lightly sweet.  The caramel swirl was a plain caramel swirl.  Again, it was very light and sweet, almost tasting like dulche de leche. The swirl was thin, but prominent throughout the pint.  The chocolate coating on the waffle cone pieces was thick, and brought a needed richness to round out the flavor.

I didn't feel like the flavor components blended together.  This was not a bad thing.  Instead, they balanced and complemented each other.  I could taste each flavor distinctly in each bite.

This is a similar, but less heavy and chunkier version of Haagen-Dazs Caramel Cone, which has a caramel as opposed to a vanilla base.  They're just different enough to make it worth trying both.
