Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Almond Bar

Yeah, so, okay, sometimes you need an ice cream bar with 'chocolate' in the name twice.  Luckily Haagen-Dazs is there to deliver with their Chocolate Dark Chocolate Almond bars, described as

Milk chocolate ice cream swirled with ribbons of fudge, coated in fine dark chocolate and perfectly roasted almonds.

 Why did I need double-chocolate ice cream bars? Because, for the first time in my life, I was an utterly terrible student. I was taking a class to fulfill a requirement, and I JUST DID NOT CARE about the subject material. About half-way through the semester I stopped paying attention in class and only turned in about half the homework.  Additionally, I totally half-assed the final project. I did okay on the midterm and the final, but was still really worried about my grade. I was wallowing in self-pity about this completely self-imposed problem and decided I needed super-duper chocolate ice cream treats. SELF-PITY!


The Chocolate Dark Chocolate Almond bars were incredibly chocolatey and did the trick to cure me of wallowing. Haagen-Dazs has one of the best grocery store chocolate bases, and it served these bars well. The chocolate ice cream is fairly dark, but still identifiably a milk chocolate ice cream.  Pure, unadulterated, rich chocolate. Nom.


Milk chocolate ice cream, fudge, dark chocolate shell; there's something for every type of chocolate lover! The dark chocolate shell was crunchy without falling apart (THE WORST) and was distinctly darker than the ice cream.  The crushed almonds were only in the shell, and the dark chocolate drowned out the almond flavor a bit.  I didn't explicitly taste the almonds until about half-way through the bar and even then I didn't so much taste them as sense them.  They added a nice nutty, rich, roasted note to the flavor profile keeping the bars juuuuuuuuuust on the good side too sweet and chocolatey.

I give Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Almond bars 🍦🍦🍦.5/4 cones. I wanted a stronger almond flavor, but otherwise these treats were a chocolate-lovers perfection.

Ok peeps, does anybody else think its a bit weird that Haagen-Dazs makes a Vanilla ice cream and a Vanilla Bean ice cream? Like, is that really necessary? Nestle Drumstick, The Original Sundae Cone

Every once in a while you've just gotta have a classic. For me, and for many others, drumsticks are reminiscent of childhood summers and the ice cream truck coming by. I have memories of drumsticks being really, really tasty and exciting. But before I review them, lets have a little history lesson. And by history lesson, no I do not mean me talking about my childhood; I do not think I am yet old enough that I can call my childhood "history". Ben and Jerry's Netflix and Chill'd

Really. A blog post. Literally 2 years to the day after the last blog post. (Srs, I did not plan that.) In that time I (Madeline) defended my thesis, so you can now call us Dr. Big Muddy Ice Cream Blog, thank you very much. So it's 2020. All through 2019 we joked that the year was a dumpster fire.
